Ripple has decided to significantly strengthen its support for blockchain technology education in the Asia-Pacific region. Through its global academic initiative, the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), the company is providing more than $5 million in new funding. The goal is to further develop young talent, support academic research, and accelerate innovation in the fields of cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and financial technologies (fintech).


🔹 Over $11 Million Invested in the APAC Region to Date

Ripple has already directed over $11 million into Asia to support education, development, and technical projects across universities in six countries — including South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, and Taiwan. The company emphasizes collaboration with universities, supports student initiatives, provides strategic guidance, and helps institutions build blockchain labs and clubs.


🔹 Significant New and Renewed Collaborations

Key activities include a renewed partnership with Korea University, valued at $1.1 million, and continued collaborations with Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo, where support has surpassed $1.5 million. Ripple is also expanding its presence in Taiwan through a new partnership with the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST), where research will focus on real-world asset (RWA) tokenization and interoperability between blockchains such as XRP Ledger, Ethereum, and Solana.


🔹 Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain Hand in Hand

At Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Professor Yang Liu’s team is working on a decentralized platform that integrates artificial intelligence with the XRP Ledger. The goal is to create a modular and open AI ecosystem leveraging blockchain technologies. As Liu emphasized, Ripple’s grant enables the team to involve more students in hands-on development and contribute to the evolution of the XRPL network.


🔹 Focus on Security, Privacy, and Innovation

In South Korea, Ripple’s research efforts target advanced topics such as:

🔹 optimization of blockchain sharding

🔹 combining sharding with Layer 2 solutions

🔹 protecting privacy in NFTs through ZKP and zk-SNARK technologies

🔹 development of an auditable anonymizing mixer for crypto finance

Professor Hyunok Oh from Hanyang University is working on improving the efficiency and security of zk-SNARK algorithms, which are crucial for scaling blockchain networks.


🔹 Australia: Legal Framework and Smart Contracts

In Australia, Ripple has renewed its collaboration with the Australian National University (ANU) and launched a new partnership with Victoria University. Ripple’s total investment in Australian universities now amounts to $1.3 million. At ANU, the company supports education focused on blockchain law, virtual assets, and digital payments, as well as research related to Evernode — a planned Layer 2 solution for XRPL.

This support also includes operating a dedicated XRPL validator and publishing student research in the ANU Journal of Law and Technology.
