Mastering the Base & Quote Game

Choosing the right trading pair isn’t just technical—it can define your profit margin, exposure, and even stress level! Here’s what I’ve learned 👇

🔹 How Trading Pairs Work:

Every pair is [Base]/[Quote]. You buy the base using the quote.

E.g. BTC/USDT → you’re buying 1 BTC using USDT.

If BTC goes up vs USDT, your value increases 💹

🔸 My Preference: Stablecoin vs Crypto Pairs

✅ I mostly trade stablecoin pairs (like ETH/USDT, SOL/USDT) because:

• Easier to track profit/loss in real-world value

• Less exposure to unexpected volatility

• Better liquidity

⚠️ But I use crypto-denominated pairs (e.g. ETH/BTC) when I want to grow BTC holdings or hedge in sideways markets.

🔍 How I Choose the Right Pair

• What’s my goal? USD profits = stablecoin pair. Growing BTC = crypto pair.

• Where’s the volume? High volume = lower spread, better execution.

• What’s trending? Sometimes the pair with the strongest momentum wins short-term.

📉 Real Example: Wrong Pair, Wrong Exit

I once shorted SOL/BTC instead of SOL/USDT.

SOL dropped in USD terms, but BTC dropped faster → the pair didn’t move much.

📌 Lesson: Pair selection must match your market view!
