USA-China: talks resume in London for a trade agreement

This morning in London, a new round of negotiations between the United States and China begins, aimed at consolidating the preliminary agreement reached last month in Geneva. Key issues on the table include rare minerals and advanced technology.

The US delegation is led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, accompanied by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. For China, Vice Premier He Lifeng. The two countries are in the midst of a 90-day truce that has temporarily reduced tariffs to 10%.

A spokesman for the UK government stated: “We support free trade and welcome these talks.”

Tensions remain high: last week Beijing accused Washington of violating agreements.

However, markets hope for signs of de-escalation. As Stephen Innes (SPI Asset Management) states: “It’s diplomacy in tailored suits. Both sides know that time is running out.”
