The trade talks between the United States and China are at risk of failing

After signs of progress, a tweet from Donald Trump raises doubts

Just when it seemed that the United States and China were close to an agreement, President Donald Trump has once again put both countries on the brink of a large-scale trade war. In a couple of late-night tweets on May 5, he threatened to impose a 25% tariff on all Chinese imports, a rate that now only applies to a much smaller proportion of imports. "The trade agreement with China continues, but too slowly, while they try to renegotiate it. No!" he said. Just a month earlier, he had proclaimed that an "epic agreement" was in the works.
