📌 Japan's chief trade negotiator, Ryusei Akazawa, announced that substantial progress has been made in the fifth round of trade talks with U.S. officials aimed at removing tariffs imposed on Japanese exports that negatively affect its economy.
📌 This was stated by Akazawa following meetings with several senior U.S. officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Pison and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik, in Washington.
📌 The Japanese negotiator explained that the tariffs imposed on cars, parts, steel, and aluminum have reached high rates, sometimes up to 50%, in addition to a general tariff of 10%, which has inflicted daily damage on the Japanese economy.
📌 Despite confirming progress in the talks, Akazawa declined to disclose specific details or results that were reached during this round.
