US President Donald Trump criticized billionaire Elon Musk on Thursday, saying he feels "disappointed" due to Musk's public opposition to the comprehensive tax cut and spending bill that lies at the heart of Trump's agenda, while Musk stated, "Without me, the US president would have lost the election."

Trump said in a statement at the White House, "Elon and I have a great relationship... I don't know if we will remain that way anymore."

He added, "He has said the nicest things about me, and he hasn't said bad things about me personally, except I am sure that will come later. But I feel very disappointed in Elon... I have helped him a lot."

Trump also confirmed that Musk launched a scathing attack on the bill due to the proposed elimination of tax breaks for electric vehicle owners.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer, said he opposes the bill because it will increase the federal deficit.

Trump noted that Musk, who received a warm farewell from the US president last week after overseeing his campaign to cut federal costs, is upset because he misses working with the US president.
