The Netflix series, House of Streams, licensed for the UK and Ireland, will feature streamers competing for a Bitcoin prize.
According to the program's website, eight contestants with a combined total of four million followers will appear in this reality series, scheduled to premiere on June 18. According to, the series will have Twitch streamers competing in a series of challenges to win 1 Bitcoin
BTC 91,475 €, worth over 104,000 dollars at current prices.
It is unclear why the Malta Film Commission, behind the production and filming of the program, chose to focus on a cryptocurrency prize for the contestants, but the series creator, Mark Holland, reportedly said, “...the ultimate reward could not be a simple cash prize or a trip to the Maldives.” The website issued a notice suggesting that some people had already used the program's association with digital assets to issue a fraudulent memecoin.
“We support Bitcoin and no other memecoin,” House of Streams said in a statement on May 22.
Netflix is no stranger to programs about cryptocurrencies and blockchain, having been behind documentary series such as Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King about the fall of the cryptocurrency exchange QuadrigaCX. The streaming service announced in May that it had greenlit the production of The Altruists, about the lives of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison.
