900,000 blocks mined
The formation of blocks in the Bitcoin network began at the moment the cryptocurrency network was launched in January 2009. Technically, each block represents a packet of confirmed transactions that miners package together and add to the blockchain approximately every 10 minutes.
The creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, formed the first block, the genesis block, on January 3, 2009, around 18:15 UTC. Who is hiding behind the pseudonym and where the developer is now remains unknown. Despite Satoshi's disappearance from the online space, their work continues to live on. Today, block mining is done by miners. For their work, they receive rewards in the form of newly mined BTC from the network and user fees for transactions.
On June 6, 2025, the 900,000th anniversary block was mined in the Bitcoin network. It was found by participants of the ViaBTC mempool. Cryptonians congratulate each other on this achievement, which symbolizes people's faith in the project once created by an anonymous developer. The next milestone will be the millionth block.

How BTC met its anniversary block
Miners found the 900,000th block in the Bitcoin network against the backdrop of the cryptocurrency falling to $100,000 with subsequent recovery. The coin depreciated due to a conflict between two important participants in the crypto community — Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
The anniversary block also coincided with a period of declining Bitcoin hash rate after the absolute maximum update on June 1, 2025. This metric shows the total computational power connected to the cryptocurrency network.

Currently, the mining difficulty of Bitcoin remains at record levels. This metric shows how difficult it is to mine a new block.

The number of unmined bitcoins continues to decrease. It should be noted that a total of 21 million coins will be issued. Of these, 19,874,591 BTC or over 94% of the issuance are already circulating in the market.
