Axial flux motors are gaining traction in the electric vehicle world for their compact size and powerful performance. Known for their flat, "pancake-style" design, these motors are lighter, thinner, and more energy-efficient than traditional radial flux motors.
British company YASA is leading this innovation. They've opened a new high-tech facility in Yarnton, UK, capable of producing over 25,000 motors annually. This marks a major step in scaling up axial flux motor production.
YASA's motors are already used by Ferrari, Koenigsegg, and Lamborghini. These ultra-slim motors deliver up to four times more torque and twice the power density of traditional motors, while being 50% lighter.
Mercedes-Benz acquired YASA in 2021, and the new factory showcases their commitment. With advanced equipment and an efficient layout, the facility ensures high-quality output for performance vehicles.
Lamborghini is using YASA motors in models like the Temerario and Revuelto, pushing total outputs to over 900 hp and even 1,001 hp, setting a new standard in hybrid supercars.
