At a recent meeting, Representative Bryan Steil stated that Congress's goal is to bring both crypto-related bills to President Donald Trump's desk before August.
It sounds drastic. But is that really the case?
The GENIUS bill from the Senate is on track to pass, but the House's Clarity bill may not be accepted by the other side. "We might get GENIUS, but the Senate probably won’t swallow the Clarity Act as is," said Representative Dusty Johnson directly.
The key point here is: both chambers must agree 100% for the bill to be signed into law. If not, they must sit down to negotiate each line.
The problem is that time is very tight. Besides crypto, Congress also has to deal with the budget, national security bills, and especially prepare for next year's congressional elections. Crypto is not the number one priority – and that is the biggest barrier.
Senator Gallego is more optimistic: "If it gets pushed to early next year, that's fine, as long as it's completed before March."
But will such an "optimistic" schedule be enough to overcome political resistance, partisanship, and the interference of interest groups?
Crypto needs legislation. But the question is: will it make it to Trump's desk before everything gets swept away by the election whirlwind?
