President Trump told reporters: I am very disappointed with Elon. I have helped him a lot. He understands the content of the bill better than anyone sitting here. He had no issues with it before. Suddenly now he is opposing it, and only started opposing after learning that we would cut the mandatory electric vehicle provision (which means cutting billions of USD in government subsidies for electric vehicles).

Elon Musk responded: Like it or not. Keep the cuts to electric vehicle and solar energy incentives in the bill, even though subsidies for the oil and gas industry are not affected (so unfair!!), but please remove the pile of "dirty" and excessive "garbage" in the bill.

In all of human history, there has never been a law that is both "big" and "beautiful". Everyone knows that!

Either you have a big and ugly bill, or you have a streamlined and beautiful bill.

Streamlined and beautiful is the right path.
