According to an update from BlockBeats, a wave of criticism is rising within the U.S. House of Representatives as Congressman Thomas Massie strongly opposes the changes to the legislative process that he deems 'dangerous and opaque.'
Massie warns that one of the key principles of the House of Representatives – the requirement to publicly disclose the full text of the bill at least 72 hours before the vote – has been 'subtly circumvented.' Specifically, by using the 'manager’s amendment' tactic, House leadership changed the content of the bill on the same night without following the prior disclosure process.
Not stopping there, Massie also accused of another similar act: the rule requiring at least a one-day waiting period between when the Rules Committee amends the bill and when the vote takes place has also been suspended. This means that the final content of the bill could be published just minutes before the debate begins – a move he calls 'blind passage.'
⏰ Surprisingly, the votes on both changing the rules and passing the bill occurred just hours apart – not enough time for anyone to fully understand what they were voting on.
Adding fuel to the fire, Massie reiterated comments made by Elon Musk, who has publicly criticized how U.S. lawmakers often do not know what they are voting on until just before the vote. And clearly, he is not the only one concerned. Many other members of Congress are also beginning to speak out about this 'public law evasion' situation.
🧠 Why is this important?
When the legislative process – which is the backbone of democracy – is manipulated, it can lead to unpredictable consequences. A bill passed without public oversight, discussion, or even a clear understanding by the representatives themselves puts the rule of law at extreme risk.
