In the context of a rapidly growing cryptocurrency market, ensuring safety for investors and participants is extremely important. Recently, police #morocco arrested Badiss Mohamed Amide Bajjou, a 24-year-old French citizen of Moroccan descent, who is believed to be the mastermind behind a series of kidnappings targeting wealthy individuals in the crypto space in France. This arrest, reported by Le Parisien, demonstrates the efforts of authorities to crack down on crimes related to digital assets.
Bajjou, the subject of a Red Notice #interpol , is suspected of being one of the ringleaders of cryptocurrency kidnapping schemes, including the incident targeting David Balland, co-founder of Ledger in January. French Minister of Justice Gérard Darmanin expressed gratitude to Morocco for this arrest, emphasizing the judicial cooperation between the two countries in the fight against organized crime.
Earlier, 12 other suspects were also arrested by French police in connection with kidnapping plots in May, including a brazen attack targeting the pregnant daughter of CEO and co-founder of cryptocurrency exchange Paymium, Pierre Noizat, along with her family. A total of 25 suspects have been charged in connection with this kidnapping, most aged between 16-23. Although Bajjou is believed to play a key role, Le Parisien reports that another French citizen of Moroccan descent, identified through cryptocurrency transaction analysis, is the real "puppet master."
Kidnapping cases related to cryptocurrency, also known as "wrench attacks" (physical attacks targeting cryptocurrency holders), are on the rise worldwide. Although many incidents go unreported, the database of Jameson Lopp, co-founder of Bitcoin security company Casa, has recorded 29 reported attacks in 2025 to date, compared to only 34 in all of 2024. The arrest of the masterminds is an important step in increasing confidence in the safety and sustainable growth potential of the cryptocurrency market in the long term.
