In Ukraine, a 35-year-old resident of Poltava was detained — since 2018, he has been mining cryptocurrency on servers of other people's accounts, causing damage of >$4.5 million (≈ 185 million UAH)
He hacked the accounts of clients of an international hosting provider, deployed virtual machines on their VPS, and secretly mined cryptocurrency. The suspect was an active participant in darknet forums, gathering vulnerabilities of global companies. Over the years, he constantly changed his place of residence in Poltava, Odessa, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions to cover his tracks.
During searches, the following were confiscated:
▪️logins and passwords to compromised accounts;
▪️cryptocurrency wallets;
▪️mining auto-start scripts;
▪️hacker software and equipment.
