WLFI airdrops 47 USD1 stablecoins, draws criticism over high Ethereum gas fees
World Liberty Financial (WLFI), backed by Donald Trump, airdropped 47 USD1 (a USD-pegged stablecoin) to wallets that participated in the $WLFI token sale. The move aimed to reward early adopters and test the project’s airdrop system, as first outlined on April 8, 2025.
Transaction data on the Ethereum blockchain confirms each wallet received 47 USD1, but the high gas fees significantly reduced the net value, drawing complaints. One user, Thę Rēct◎r, noted that the gas costs outweighed the reward.
USD1 is designed for zero-fee minting and redemption and leverages Chainlink’s Proof of Reserves for transparency. However, CryptoSlate reports that five wallets control 40% of WLFI’s voting power, raising centralization concerns.
