Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung defeated People Power Party candidate Kim Moon-soo with a vote share of 49.42% (41.15%) and was officially elected as the new president. This election was the second held in a presidential vacancy since the constitutional reform in 1987. At 6 AM on June 4, the National Election Commission of South Korea officially confirmed the election results, and Lee Jae-myung immediately took office with no transition period.
