Investor Ross Gerber says Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and a former advisor to the Trump administration, recognizes a harsh reality about Washington. Gerber wrote in a post on May 24 on X: 'After 4 months, Elon realizes what every American knows instinctively. No one in government wants to 'cut' any budget.'

Musk has spent the past four months leading the Office of Government Efficiency, a controversial initiative aimed at cutting costs, tied to mass layoffs and agency closures. But even Musk now seems frustrated with Washington's spending habits. On Thursday, he wrote on X that his 'scheduled time' as a special government employee has ended.

In a recent interview with CBS_News, Musk criticized the major tax and spending package of the Trump administration - dubbed the 'big and beautiful bill' - saying it 'increases the budget deficit, not just reduces it.' Musk warned that the legislation 'undermines the work being done by the Department of Energy team' and criticized the government for ignoring the need for real cuts.

The bill, which has been approved by the House and is now before the Senate, will boost spending on defense and border security, extend tax cuts, and reduce clean energy and healthcare programs. Independent analysts estimate this could add trillions to the national debt.

Musk told CBS, 'I think the bill could be huge or beautiful. But I don't know if it can combine both.'

Musk was a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, spending over $250 million on his 2024 campaign. However, in recent weeks, he has distanced himself from political spotlight.
