Ethereum is finally realizing that unfocused effort doesn't yield decentralization. rather, it just yields subpar results at best and uncoordinated chaos at worst
but Ethereum is and always will be decentralized in the critical ways which matter:
1) client diversity
2) consensus model
3) node distribution
everything in Ethereum needs diverse input to pass through those barriers by default, but should be done in coordinated ways so that they are actually effective- not a tragedy of the commons where no one takes ownership to lead the charge
once we 10x or 100x ecosystem from here, i think we will see much more self-organization around such coordination, with well-funded industry-defined consortia stepping up to lead the charge on things which must be done in the ecosystem
but for now, the EF can and should play a role to help with that coordination. we have come a long, long way from the days of "vITaLiK COnTroLs the ChAiN." Vitalik is now just one voice among many
what i see today is 7 leaders stepping up to help navigate the ship for the next leg in Ethereum's journey. they join several other leaders who are already playing key roles in advancing Ethereum
under their stewardship, i suspect Ethereum will be more effective than ever, and more decentralized than ever
