$BTC Metaplanet adds 1,088 Bitcoin for $117M, increasing its holdings to 8,888 BTC
Metaplanet, listed in Tokyo and often called "MicroStrategy of Asia," has purchased an additional 1,088 Bitcoin for $117.5 million, at an average price of $108,400 per BTC. The company now owns 8,888 BTC, valued at around $930 million, nearing its year-end target of 10,000 BTC.
This move underscores the growing institutional confidence in Bitcoin, even at prices above $100,000. The cryptocurrency recently reached an all-time high of nearly $112,000 before retreating to around $104,000, according to CoinGecko.
Metaplanet adopted its Bitcoin treasury policy in April 2024 and has quickly become the largest corporate holder of BTC in Asia, ranking among the top ten globally. Its latest purchase was driven by a $50 million zero-interest bond issuance, helping it expand its holdings without capital dilution.
The company has embraced Bitcoin amid economic uncertainty and volatility in Japan's bond markets. In March, Metaplanet added Eric Trump to its Strategic Advisory Board, citing his business acumen and pro-Bitcoin stance.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration is pushing its own crypto agenda, establishing a Strategic Reserve of Bitcoin and a Stockpile of U.S. seized cryptocurrency assets for national use or liquidation.
