Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse called for an end to the ongoing conflict between the Bitcoin and XRP communities. His comments came amid new clashes that reignited long-standing disagreements in the crypto space.
Garlinghouse made this statement addressing participants at the XRP event in Las Vegas. According to a post by @edward_farina on X, Garlinghouse stated, "By rewriting the entire banking system, we underestimate the scale of these changes," emphasizing the scale of transformation Ripple aims to achieve. A video of this remark was shared directly by the Ripple account, adding weight to its significance.
The latest disagreement began after Senator Cynthia Lummis canceled a meeting with Ripple's Brad Garlinghouse — Lummis, who recently became the chair of the subcommittee on digital assets, advocates for Bitcoin. Garlinghouse urged Powell to advocate for all cryptocurrencies, not just Bitcoin, following his dismissal.
XRP supporters online quickly voiced their opinions, criticizing Lummis and sharing a tweet from Will Cole in 2022, in which he called XRP a "centralized fraud joke." People from both communities became even more suspicious and distrustful of each other.
Tensions further escalated when Ripple donated the controversial work "Satoshi's Skull" to the Bitcoin Museum in Nashville. The work, often seen as a symbol of criticism against Bitcoin mining, provoked negative reactions from many Bitcoin supporters, who viewed it as yet another attack on the network.
Earlier reports indicated that Ripple opposed the proposed policy that would require only Bitcoin to be held in U.S. reserves. Politico covered the story about the White House's dismissal of a lobbyist who previously advocated for including XRP in federal cryptocurrency discussions.
Despite the disagreements, Garlinghouse insists that the sector cannot focus on competition. He clearly stated that Bitcoin's success will not impact XRP's results, and similarly, XRP's success will not affect Bitcoin.
