Czech Justice Minister Pavel Blazek has resigned following the scandal arising from the sale of Bitcoin worth nearly USD 45 million carried out by his ministry and donated by a convicted drug dealer.
The controversy erupted on May 28 after the ministry published on X that it had raised nearly 1 billion Czech crowns (around USD 45 million) by auctioning nearly 500 Bitcoin (BTC).
The funds were allocated to projects such as the digitalization of the judicial system, combating drug use in prisons, and improving the housing of prison staff.
However, the Czech media outlet Denik N revealed that the cryptocurrency came from Tomas Jirikovsky, a convicted criminal behind Sheep Marketplace, a dark web platform famous for selling illegal products.
