some thoughts on this socialfi/infofi wave, the content slop we see and diluting personal brand...
for the first time, we've seen actual money 5-6 figures in potential gains for those participating, but its at the cost of personal brand dilution
it's a very attractive opportunity for 2 people: low capital users & intense focus big creators
the former may rely on it to replace their job and are not that great at trading --- the latter can make a lot of money for pretty much "free"
the obvious cons exist here:
- a lot of content slop (it's like ai bots but real people, nothing interesting or new)
- shilling projects people don't actually believe in (how many have spoke about them pre-kaito?)
- big brand dilution (you can't trust opinions from the user anymore)
- even more noise for new users who don't know the above
some pros:
- incentives are public, you can decide for yourself what someone is shilling
- creators that don't shill every project can stand out in the midst of the slop
I mostly encourage it for creators that pretty much have close to no following right now because you should do what you can to make money, but understand the cost
I do think X has become a place less reliable now for new users, so it's probably generally -EV for the space in terms of onboarding, still a longer discussion to have
