Solana's Future: Underperforming Ethereum, Says Standard Chartered#
Standard Chartered, a prominent investment bank, predicts that Solana (SOL) will likely fall short of Ethereum's (ETH) performance by the end of 2025, despite forecasting a near-doubling of Solana's value. The bank attributes this anticipated underperformance primarily to Solana's significant dependence on memecoins.
#Geoff Kendrick, Standard Chartered's Head of FX and Digital Assets Research, shared these insights on Tuesday, May 27. He projects Solana to reach $275 by late 2025 and potentially $500 by 2029. In contrast, Ethereum is expected to climb to $4,000 by the end of 2025 and $7,500 by 2029, indicating a stronger growth trajectory.
Kendrick views Solana's reliance on memecoin trading as a "double-edged sword." While it has provided short-term boosts, he believes the memecoin sector has passed its peak, posing a risk to Solana's long-term growth. This slowing growth in memecoin-driven revenue is leading the market to "apply a quantifiable discount" to Solana's overall value.
