📌 US President Donald Trump on Friday pointed to renewed trade tensions with China, accusing Beijing of "violating" a deal reached to ease tariffs, as the two sides appear to be stalling on progress in negotiations.
📌 Trump's tweet on Truth Social came hours after US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant told Fox News in an interview that trade talks with China were "somewhat stalled."
📌 The world's two largest economies agreed this month to temporarily reduce the extremely high tariffs they had imposed on each other, during a 90-day cooling-off period, following talks between senior officials in Geneva.
📌 But Trump tweeted on Friday: "China, perhaps to some people's surprise, has completely violated their agreement with us," without providing further details.
📌 Asked about Trump's tweet in an interview with CNBC, US Trade Representative Jamieson criticized Jarir criticized Beijing for continuing to "slow down and obstruct matters such as vital minerals."
He added that the US trade deficit with China "remains enormous," and that Washington has not noticed significant changes in Beijing's behavior.
📌 Jarir said, "The Chinese are dragging their feet on compliance, and this is completely unacceptable."
