Every week, there are news about Bitcoin being purchased by companies like Strategy, funds such as BlackRock, Fidelity, and others. But who are they buying it from, and who owns the 21 million coins?
📊 According to research, Bitcoin is distributed among the following groups:
🔹 68.2% — private retail investors, like you and me. They hold the largest share — 14.32 million BTC.
🔹 11.5% — owned by funds, ETFs, and businesses.
🔹 7.6% of the supply is lost forever — that's approximately 1.5 million Bitcoins.
🔹 5.4% — remaining to mine (extract).
🔹 4.6% — belongs to early miners, including the 'founder' of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto.
Interestingly, 1.5% is owned by the governments of various countries. According to various estimates, 🇺🇦 has about 45,000 BTC (~$4.9 billion). Only the UK, China, and the USA have more.
