The government has approved Rs 84.809 million as reward money for Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) after 36 years, for seizing 25 kg of gold near Narowal in 1989. The gold, worth Rs 565 million, was finally deposited in the national treasury in 2024.
Under the Customs Reward Rules 2012, Rangers are entitled to 15% of the realized amount. The delay was due to legal and procedural issues, but authorities clarified the updated rules apply as the funds were recovered in 2024.
On May 13, 2025, the ECC approved the grant for the reward. Officials ensured the money will reach the rightful personnel or their heirs, promising such delays won't happen again.
