On May 25, near the shores of India, a container ship flying the Liberian flag sank due to flooding. The crew, which included Ukrainians, was successfully rescued.
According to India Shipping News, the vessel was carrying 640 containers, of which 13 contained hazardous cargo.
Given that the cargo has gone to the bottom, the country's coast guard has declared full readiness to respond to pollution. However, there have been no reports of an oil spill so far.
According to the Indian Ministry of Defense, some containers contain calcium carbide, which is used in the chemical industry. The ship also had about 370 tons of fuel and oil on board.
