Led by King Jigme Wangchuck, Bhutan is embracing digital transformation through the "Digital Bhutan" initiative, aimed at improving infrastructure, digital skills, and IT sectors.
In 2023, it was revealed that Bhutan's state fund had secretly mined 11,879 BTC using abundant hydroelectric power.
Now, Bhutan is working with global mining firms to build green-powered data centers and is testing a CBDC with Ripple. Blockchain is also being explored for land and agriculture applications.
