SoftBank Proposes US-Japan Sovereign Fund for Technology Investments
-SoftBank's CEO, Masayoshi Son, has proposed the creation of a joint sovereign fund between the United States and Japan aimed at making significant investments in the technology and infrastructure sectors of the United States. This proposal has been discussed at the highest political levels of both countries and could serve as a model for other governments seeking to deepen investment cooperation with the United States.
Under the proposed structure, the US Department of the Treasury and the Ministry of Finance of Japan would be co-owners and operate the fund, each with substantial equity stakes. The fund would then be opened to other limited partner investors and potentially allow ordinary citizens of both countries to buy shares.
Sources indicate that to achieve its investment goals, the fund would need to reach a substantial size, with an initial capital of $300 billion, followed by operations involving high leverage.
