In a deeply disturbing case shaking the crypto and global security communities, a Kentucky-based crypto investor, John Woeltz (37), has been arrested in Manhattan for allegedly kidnapping, torturing, and attempting to extort crypto wallet passwords from an Italian tourist.

The Details:
According to New York authorities, the victim—a 28-year-old tourist from Italy—was held captive in a $30K–$40K/month luxury apartment on Prince Street beginning May 6. What began as a meeting between former acquaintances turned into a weeks-long ordeal of torture, allegedly aimed at accessing a crypto fortune worth millions.

Inside the "Torture Chamber":
Police described the apartment as a scene from a horror film:

  • Electric cords used to bind the victim

  • Chainsaw threats, tasering in water

  • Whippings with a pistol

  • Forced drug use

  • Blood-stained floors and disturbing polaroids

Crypto Motive Confirmed:
Investigators believe the motive was clear—digital extortion, with the attackers demanding wallet access credentials.

The Escape:
The victim, tracked by an Apple AirTag, narrowly escaped last Friday—the same day he feared he would be killed. He reached a local police station, initiating a full-scale investigation.

Multiple Arrests & Ongoing Probe:

  • John Woeltz faces charges of kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, assault, and weapons possession.

  • Beatrice Folchi (24) was also arrested on similar charges.

  • Two more suspects are under investigation.

Community Reaction:
Local residents and vendors expressed shock. One eyewitness described Woeltz’s arrest in a robe as “surreal.” Others noted strange behavior among “crypto guys” in the building.

Security Reminder:
This case serves as a grim warning to crypto investors:

Always safeguard wallet credentials. Avoid sharing personal access or meeting unknown contacts alone.
