Avalanche plays beautifully with FIFA
FIFA and Avalanche join forces to build L1 Network
Avalanche, FIFA's Blockchain will operate as a sovereign layer 1 network with high performance, low latency, and governance autonomy. Despite its independence, the blockchain will remain interoperable with the Avalanche Ethereum (EVM) ecosystem.
FIFA intends to use Avalanche to organize fan experiences, commercial platforms, and digital collectibles that can scale to match its global audience of five billion fans.
"By selecting Avalanche, FIFA is not merely adopting blockchain, but is establishing a long-term digital foundation capable of supporting the scale, speed, and flexibility required by the world's best-selling sport," reads the statement.
The NFT craze, which drove large institutions and corporations to join the trend, has practically disappeared after the brutal crypto winter that weakened the sector's confidence for several painful years. However, the continued focus of a major entity like FIFA on blockchain likely indicates that the use of this technology has not diminished, and that large companies are still looking to venture into the sector.
“Avalanche is designed for businesses and organizations looking to develop customized, high-performance blockchain solutions,” said John Nahas, commercial director of Ava Labs, in a press release shared with CoinDesk. “FIFA's decision to launch its L1 on Avalanche demonstrates our technology's ability to support global applications with speed, flexibility, and security.”
While FIFA currently only has an NFT collection for the World Cup and a marketplace for digital collectibles, it did not share what else it plans to launch on its new blockchain.
