FIFA, the organization that governs the world's football associations, has launched its own participation-oriented blockchain on Avalanche's Layer 1. FIFA Collect, a digital collectibles application, is migrating to the new chain to take advantage of its scalability and other enhancements.
FIFA Launches Its Own Blockchain on Avalanche
The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the governing body of all football associations in the world, will harness the power of blockchain to engage football followers. Team1 from Avalanche revealed that FIFA is launching the FIFA blockchain, a custom chain that will offer new opportunities for fan engagement.
Luke152, leader of Team1, explained that the FIFA blockchain will expand the functionalities already available with the current iteration of its decentralized platform on Algorand. With this new blockchain implementation, FIFA can now set its own rules, permissions, and optimizations, giving it full control over the possibilities available for its products.
With this new set of rules, FIFA will add additional functionality to its FIFA Collect app, which will migrate to Avalanche. These include ticketing processes, the issuance of digital challenges, and also digital collectibles with added utility.
Moreover, this migration offers technical improvements that will allow FIFA's operations to scale seamlessly, enhancing transaction completion and reducing fees. It does so without concerns about external traffic affecting operations.
Luke152 emphasized that adopting this new chain will grow FIFA's ecosystem, bringing new use cases for both users and the association. He stated:
The FIFA Blockchain is expected to support a growing ecosystem of experiences for fans, including new types of interaction, loyalty-based rewards, and even digital extensions of live events.
Avalanche's official announcement reveals that 'more future business cases remain confidential and may be disclosed at a later stage,' hinting at the launch of more applications.
Other projects have already taken this path, migrating or creating their custom chains on Avalanche. Off the Grid, a battle royale extraction game, uses the GUNZ Layer 1 to power its game interactions, allowing users to gain true ownership of their in-game assets.
