Chinese EV maker Xiaomi, which surpassed Tesla in sales in 2025 after just 18 months in the market, is once again challenging the American giant with its new YU7 Electric Sports SUV.

Set for a full reveal on May 22, the YU7 is positioned to rival Tesla’s Model Y and Model X. With a refined European design and premium Chinese features, the YU7 signals Xiaomi’s bold move beyond sedans into the highly competitive SUV segment.

Xiaomi is also showcasing impressive production efficiency, assembling an SU7 in just 76 seconds—a testament to the growing strength of China’s manufacturing capabilities. As other Chinese automakers like Geely roll out models such as the Radar RD6 pickup to compete with Tesla’s Cybertruck, the global EV landscape may be on the verge of a major shift.
