Donald Trump is set to host an exclusive dinner this evening for the top holders of his “Official Trump” (TRUMP) meme coin at the Trump National Golf Club in Potomac Falls, Virginia. The event, which has garnered significant attention and criticism, is a fulfillment of promises made by the former president to the burgeoning crypto community.
According to Fortune, the private gala will welcome approximately 220 individuals who demonstrated the highest average holdings of TRUMP between April 23 and May 12. A select group of the top 25 holders will receive an additional exclusive reception with Trump before dinner and a special VIP tour afterward. These top holders have also been encouraged to extend their stay in the area.
The dinner is slated to begin at 7 p.m. and could run until 10 p.m., with attendees not permitted to arrive before 5:30 p.m. Strict security measures are in place, including background checks, and guests from countries on know-your-customer (KYC) watchlists are prohibited. The dress code is formal attire.
While the identities of most attendees remain cloaked behind pseudonymous wallet addresses on the Official Trump website leaderboard, some prominent figures have publicly confirmed their participation. Controversial crypto billionaire Justin Sun, founder of the Tron blockchain and an advisor for HTX crypto exchange, holds the top spot on the TRUMP leaderboard and has expressed his honor to attend via X. Singaporean crypto firm MemeCore, the second-largest holder, will send its anonymous co-founder. Australian investor Kain Warwick, founder of Infinex, is also expected to attend, despite not being among the top 25.
Notably, Fortune’s investigation revealed that 18 of the top 25 TRUMP holders have interacted with Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange that does not serve U.S. investors, suggesting a significant international presence among the invitees.
The anticipation surrounding the dinner has seemingly boosted the TRUMP meme coin’s performance. CoinMarketCap data shows the token up 7% daily and over 23% in the past week, trading around $15.4 at the time of writing. However, the coin remains down 80% from its all-time high of $75 recorded on January 19.
Despite the positive market reaction for TRUMP, the event has drawn considerable criticism, with some labeling Trump’s crypto ventures as potentially corrupt. A protest, led by Robert Weissman of the nonprofit Public Citizen and U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley, is reportedly being organized outside the golf club, highlighting growing concerns about ethical implications and potential foreign influence.
