Over time, U.S. President Donald Trump has continuously fulfilled promises he made to the cryptocurrency community. One of them is a special dinner with users holding his meme coin, Official Trump (TRUMP).
According to emails obtained by Fortune, the formal dinner has been scheduled for Thursday, May 22, at one of his golf clubs – Trump National Golf Club – in Potomac Falls, Virginia. Only the top 220 TRUMP holders will be able to attend.
Trump will dine with the top TRUMP holders
To participate in the ranking, users must hold as much TRUMP as possible from April 23 to May 12. Their average holdings will determine their ranking on the leaderboard.
The top 25 TRUMP holders will have an exclusive reception before the dinner with the president. They will also receive a special VIP tour and are encouraged to stay in town after the dinner.
The organizers have announced that no guests are allowed to attend the dinner—only registered individuals may enter the event. Guests must pass a background check at the venue and cannot come from countries on the Know Your Customer (KYC) watchlist.
The 220 attendees are not allowed to arrive earlier than 5:30 PM as the dinner will start at 7 PM and may last until 10 PM. The dress code is formal attire; once the attendee information has been submitted, they will not be able to change it.
Who will attend?
The ranking on the official Trump website displays pseudonyms linked to wallet addresses and their current and past TRUMP holdings. Since the names do not convey the true identity of the holders, it will be difficult to know who will attend the dinner.
However, some attendees have reported that they will attend, and one of them is the controversial big name in the cryptocurrency field, Justin Sun. He founded the decentralized blockchain Tron and is an advisor to the cryptocurrency exchange HTX.
Justin Sun is the top holder of the TRUMP ranking and revealed on X that he is honored to attend the dinner. Alongside Sun, Fortune discovered that the Singapore cryptocurrency company (MemeCore), the second largest holder of TRUMP, will send its anonymous co-founder as a representative to attend the dinner. Additionally, Kain Warwick, an Australian investor and founder of the cryptocurrency company Infinex, will attend, although he is not among the top 25 holders.
Interestingly, Fortune found that 18 of the top 25 holders have interacted with the cryptocurrency exchange Binance. Since Binance does not provide services to U.S. investors, it is believed that they are from outside the country.
How has TRUMP reacted?
Data from CoinMarketCap shows that TRUMP has reacted positively to the upcoming dinner in recent days. The coin has increased by 7% each day and has risen over 23% in the past week. It is trading at around $15.4 at the time of writing.
Despite this surge, the meme coin is still down 80% from its all-time high of $75 recorded on January 19.
Meanwhile, Trump's meme coin dinner has received criticism from many, with some individuals claiming that his cryptocurrency ventures are corrupt. A group, led by Robert Weissman of the nonprofit Public Citizen and U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley, is organizing a protest outside the golf club.
