What are Layer 2s and why do they matter?
A short explanation for anyone lost in the L2 buzz:
1- Ethereum is powerful but slow. High fees, long wait times.
2- Layer 2s are built on top of Ethereum. They batch or compress transactions, then settle them back to L1.
3- Two main types:
- Optimistic Rollups (Arbitrum, Optimism): Assume transactions are valid unless challenged
- ZK-Rollups (zkSync, Starknet): Prove transactions are valid with cryptography
4- Why L2s matter:

Faster speed
Still secured by Ethereum
- Mass adoption won’t happen on a $50 gas fee.
Layer 2s are the on-ramp to real scalability.
