The Ripple saga comes to a pause, fines reduced by 50%, but the judge rejects the settlement proposal!
As of May 18, 2025, U.S. regulators have withdrawn their charges against Ripple, marking the nearing end of this protracted legal battle. Ripple subsequently dropped its counterclaims against the regulatory agency, and both parties seem to have reached a settlement.
According to the agreement, Ripple's fine of $125 million is reduced to $50 million, but the court has not fully accepted this. The judge overseeing the case, Analisa Torres, rejected both parties' motions to reduce the civil penalties, citing procedural noncompliance and failure to meet relevant legal requirements.
The judge clearly stated that even if the court regains jurisdiction, the application would be denied due to procedural issues. Legal experts point out that this is merely a procedural matter, and both parties are expected to resubmit their applications; however, Ripple still needs to act cautiously in the litigation, seeking reasonable compensation.
The game between the crypto giant and regulators continues.
