$BTC An American tourist from Portland, Oregon, was on a two-day layover in London and fell victim to a sophisticated scam on May 9, 2025.

According to the report, after spending the night at the Roxy nightclub in Soho, the tourist requested an Uber ride back to his accommodation around 1:30 a.m. A fraudulent driver apparently learned of his ride request through the app and intercepted him, falsely claiming to be his Uber driver.

Once inside the car, the driver offered him a cigarette. According to the American tourist, the cigarette contained scopolamine, a drug known to cause memory loss and make victims extremely vulnerable. The scammer then seized his phone and transferred $123,000 worth of Bitcoin and XRP.

What happened to the American tourist is a very unfortunate situation. It seems that this type of scam has become more common, as scammers target cryptocurrency holders. It's a very disturbing method of fraud and theft, isn't it?
