He wanted to build an ASIC chip for mining when he got out. He told the judge he’d start a Bitcoin mining business. He had the motive. He needed a tool to move money across borders without getting caught. He had the skills. He built complex systems from scratch. He had the worldview. A deep obsession with privacy and distrust of governments.
