On May 21, PANews reported that according to the Hongxing News public account, the main suspect in the kidnapping and murder case of the highly关注ed Chinese 'Steel King' in the Philippines, Guo Congyuan, who is also the founding president of the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce, has been captured at a luxury resort in Boracay, Philippines. It has been confirmed that the two arrested suspects are Gong Wenli (alias 'Kelly') and Wu Jiaping (phonetic, alias 'Wu Jiabing'). Among them, Gong Wenli is identified as one of the masterminds of this kidnapping case, primarily responsible for luring the victim to the place where he was kidnapped, managing a digital wallet that held a ransom of 200 million pesos, as well as laundering money and other operations. There is still a main suspect, Jonin Lin, who remains at large.
Currently, the cryptocurrency wallets that have been tracked contain only part of the ransom; another approximately $1.36 million in ransom has already been withdrawn through an account in Cambodia, which U.S. authorities have flagged as suspected of money laundering.
