Below is a real example of how hackers impersonate legit people and legit teams in crypto (ie @fraxfinance) to trick you into a situation where they can gain access to your computer to steal your crypto.

For years, I have purposely been slow to reply in Telegram, Discord, X, emails for this exact reason.

I know it’s frustrating I might not reply to every message or that I’m not easy to reach.

That is by design.

Because scammers are everywhere.

They are exceptional at these social engineering scams, where they ingratiate themselves as an amazing business opportunity or maybe it plays into your own vanity to cover you on MSM.

For example, they know how to approach me as a content creator and investor.

Pitch a big story, pitch a killer investment, or request to become a sponsor.

But if they’re legit, you can take the time to verify it’s really them.

You can have strict standards for how to engage such as refusing to download a deck. I will NOT download anything from someone I don’t know, and even then I assume someone I know and trust could have been tricked into passing some download along with malware, so just NO, to any downloads. Full stop.

And, I never rush to get on any call.

Again, I am purposely hard to reach.

And guess what? I might miss some amazing opportunities. In fact, I have.

But I don’t get phished or hacked because I literally assume every email or message could be social engineering to come after me.

Luckily, @Nomaticcap is the same way.

We immediately discussed this morning how the below message was either an amazing lead or 100% fake but let’s assume it’s fake until we can verify their identity from multiple accounts or through a reference.

So we figured out quickly, this mfer is NOT @vince_dowdle, just an impersonator.

Better luck next time, scammers 🖕

Btws, just saying I ain’t worth hacking.

I’ve made some money but my scammer magic internet money brothers in Christ, you’d be disappointed wasting time on me.

I do possess a treasure chest of real assets though if the secondary market on used kids car seats ever heats up.
