Paul Atkins: The Cryptocurrency Industry is Witnessing the Dawn of a New Era
Paul Atkins, the Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), stated that the cryptocurrency industry is witnessing the dawn of a new era under the current leadership of the agency.
Atkins added, in a speech addressing some regulatory concerns regarding the cryptocurrency industry, noting that the financial regulatory agency will be more open to "adapting to and embracing new developments" while adhering to its laws.
Atkins said: "Cryptocurrency markets have been experiencing a state of uncertainty at the SEC for years."
He continued: "As I begin my term as Chairman, I can assure you that we are returning to our roots in encouraging innovation... markets innovate, and the SEC should not impose its silence upon them."
He added: "While I have directed the Commission staff through our policy divisions to begin drafting rule proposals related to cryptocurrencies, staff continues to 'clarify matters' through staff-level statements."
