The United States will extend permission to Chevron in Venezuela following negotiations 🔴🔴🔴
📌 The Donald Trump Administration is preparing to extend the deadline for Chevron to cease its operations in Venezuela by another 60 days, amid ongoing negotiations between the U.S. government and Nicolás Maduro's administration regarding repatriation flights and the fate of detained U.S. citizens in the country, Bloomberg revealed this Tuesday, May 20.
The announcement of the extension is expected later this Tuesday, coinciding with a trip by President Donald Trump's envoy, Richard Grenell, to the island of Antigua, where he met with members of Maduro's government.
Initially, the U.S. Department of the Treasury had set April 3 as the deadline for Chevron to finalize its operations, but granted an extension.
Following the news, Venezuelan government bonds and those of the state oil company experienced a rise.
Chevron has increased its production in recent years, contributing approximately 20% of Venezuela's oil production and helping to inject foreign currency into the country.
Later this Tuesday, right-wing activist and Trump ally Laura Loomer posted on X that Grenell was returning from Antigua in the company of Joe St. Clair, a U.S. Air Force veteran who had been detained in Venezuela.
This rapprochement between both governments comes after Maduro thanked Trump for allowing the reunification of a small girl with her mother in Caracas last week.
