Blockchain.RIO is the main event in Latin America focused on blockchain technology, Web3, digital finance, and innovation.

Blockchain RIO

Blockchain RIO

An increasingly mature and institutional market, which attracts the interest of players of different sizes and also regulators, both in Brazil and in other countries.

It is in this fertile landscape for innovation and filled with challenges that another edition of Blockchain.RIO will take place, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, from August 5 to 7.

And the pre-launch event, which took place this Thursday (15) at InovaBRA, in São Paulo, provided a glimpse of what awaits the audience in a few weeks.

One of the confirmed novelties for this year is the Blockchain Forum Latam, with panels entirely in Spanish dedicated to players from different countries in Latin America, internationalizing the discussions of Blockchain.RIO.

The following stages have also been confirmed:

  • “Cria”, under the care of the CVM (Securities and Exchange Commission);

  • Regulation Rocks, with Fenasbac (National Federation of Central Bank Employees Associations)

  • Global Finance, with Abracam (Brazilian Exchange Association), focusing on stablecoins and cross-border payments.

“The Brazilian crypto market is in a very mature phase, and this is reflected in activities like Blockchain.RIO, which is much more than an event. It is an ecosystem of companies, people, and communities interconnected through innovation, regulation, education, and market. We are preparing for a much larger event this year, generating new businesses, partnerships, learning, and networking. And this pre-launch is just a taste of what's to come,” said Francisco Carvalho, CEO and founder of Blockchain.RIO.

Focus on stablecoins and regulation

Among the themes that emerged during the pre-launch of Blockchain.RIO are stablecoins, transnational payments, asset tokenization, regulation, and self-custody of crypto assets.

For the main event in August, the audience will also cover topics such as interoperability, digital identity, decentralized finance, artificial intelligence, compliance, and sustainability.

Regarding stablecoins, one of the hot topics in the market, there were two panels that highlighted their growth and the business possibilities that such assets provide.

“Technology has come to eliminate intermediaries and make everything more efficient. There are several players in the market that complement each other and establish partnerships both inside and outside Brazil. We still have a huge market challenge of evangelization, and all of this is happening now,” said Silvio Pegado, director of Ripple for Latin America and one of the panelists at the event.

Another topic of great impact in the media is the regulation of crypto assets.

According to Brazilian legislation, this function falls to the Central Bank, which has been conducting public consultations to gather suggestions and impressions from different audiences, including market members, public policy makers, academics, and users. At the same time, members of the crypto sector emphasize that this regulation should be done in a way that does not stifle its potential for innovation.

“The Central Bank has a huge challenge in regulating locally something that was born to be global. It is very positive to open a dialogue with different actors through public consultations to regulate the crypto sector. At the same time, we need to consider the risks if a balance is not found between regulation and fostering innovation,” emphasized Marina Fagali, manager of Public-Institutional Relations at Grupo Chiliz.

Brazil and Blockchain.RIO

Created in 2022, Blockchain.RIO has established itself as the main gathering of the Web3 community in the country.

The 2025 edition will be held in two locations: Casa Camolese, in Jardim Botânico, will host an exclusive event for leaders, investors, and sponsors on the 5th; while on the 6th and 7th, Expo Mag, in downtown Rio de Janeiro, will host the business fair, technical content, and immersive experiences open to the public. The expectation is to attract an audience of more than 20,000 people.

The realization of Blockchain.RIO takes place in a context where Brazil stands out as one of the most advanced countries in regulation and adoption of crypto assets in the world.

According to Chainalysis' Global Crypto Adoption report, Latin America accounts for 9.1% of global adoption, with Brazil ranking ninth worldwide in users and leading the number of crypto fintechs in the region.

In 2025, Blockchain.RIO expands its activities with the Blockchain on the Road program, which brings content about Web3 and crypto assets to universities across Brazil.

The initiative started in March and will extend until June, totaling 17 higher education institutions in 12 cities — including São Paulo, Recife, Curitiba, and Florianópolis. — and is expected to impact about 2,500 students focusing on the formation of new talents.
