#BinancePizza (Global) This month, the world's most famous cryptocurrency celebrates 15 years since its first transaction. While the world celebrates this anniversary on May 22, Binance, a provider of blockchain and cryptocurrency infrastructure, celebrates not only a historic event but also a significant milestone in the journey of innovation and cryptocurrency adoption in Latin America and around the world, at a time when hundreds of millions of people have already entered this market.

Bitcoin Pizza Day marks the first recorded purchase with Bitcoin when Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas in 2010. This seemingly trivial transaction at the time has become a symbol of Bitcoin's evolution, from an innovative concept to a transformative financial technology. The 10,000 BTC used by Laszlo to pay $41 for two pizzas would currently be worth over $1 billion, demonstrating the consolidation of cryptocurrency as a relevant asset and financial instrument over all these years.

"Looking to the future, we remain focused on our users and committed to supporting the growth and adoption of cryptocurrencies at scale, driving innovation and empowering individuals and communities through the transformative power of blockchain technology. All this is underpinned by transparency, security, and the protection of user resources, fundamental values for Binance. Support from the Web3 community is essential on this path," said Guilherme Nazar, regional vice president of Binance for Latin America.

In the last 15 years, Bitcoin has transformed from a niche asset for technology enthusiasts to a global phenomenon, driving the development of an entire ecosystem of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies. This anniversary is a testament to its remarkable journey and highlights the achievements in innovation and adoption that have transformed the financial landscape.

According to data from the payment company Triple-A, in 2024 there were more than 560 million cryptocurrency users worldwide. Latin America has been experiencing growth above other regions, more than doubling its user base last year, with Argentina and Brazil standing out. At Binance, the global user base grew by 47% last year, with a 63% increase in Latin America. The platform currently has over 270 million users worldwide.
