The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) is the official stock exchange of Kenya, based in Nairobi. It is not a company composed of other companies, but rather a platform where stocks and other financial securities are bought and sold, similar to other exchanges around the world such as the NYSE (New York) or the BMV (Mexico).
What does the NSE consist of?
The NSE:
• Facilitates the trading of shares of Kenyan public companies.
• Also operates with bonds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and derivatives.
• Provides liquidity and transparency to the financial market of Kenya.
• Supervises and regulates that listed companies follow the rules to protect investors.

Some of the main companies listed on the NSE are:
1. Safaricom – Leading telecommunications provider (known for its M-Pesa service).
2. Equity Group Holdings – One of the largest banks in East Africa.
3. KCB Group – Another major bank with regional presence.
4. East African Breweries Ltd (EABL) – Beverage company, subsidiary of Diageo.
5. Kenya Airways – National airline.
6. Bamburi Cement – Cement manufacturer, part of the LafargeHolcim group.
7. Nation Media Group – Leading media conglomerate in the region.
In total, more than 60 companies are listed on the NSE, belonging to sectors such as banking, agriculture, manufacturing, telecommunications, energy, among others.
