The crypto fund World Liberty Financial, linked to Donald Trump, has purchased tokens for the first time. This coin, once considered the flagship of the ICO era, is now preparing for rebranding and a ticker change. The share of EOS in WLFi's portfolio is still small, but the mere fact of the purchase can be seen as support for the project.

The deal was completed for $2.99 million, tokens were purchased at a price of $0.82. After that, the EOS price fluctuated in the range of $0.80–$0.84 on different exchanges. Trading volumes remain low, so volatility is felt more strongly.

A bet on BNB Chain and rebranding of EOS

Interestingly, this time the WLFi team used the decentralized exchange PancakeSwap. The fund purchased the EOS version on the BNB Smart Chain, exchanging USDT directly. This means that the portfolio contains not the 'original' EOS token from its native network, but its BSC variant. And now, as EOS undergoes rebranding to Vaulta, the fund may face a more complex exchange scheme for the new ticker.

After the deal, the total assets of the World Liberty Fi fund increased to about $106 million. The portfolio remains active, with swaps and trades occurring regularly.

From record ICO to survival struggle

The purchase of EOS has become an atypical step for the fund. Prior to this, WLFi mainly focused on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain, where their stablecoin USD1 operates. But EOS is a completely different network, with its own ecosystem and architecture.

Despite a loud start, EOS has not been able to establish itself among the leaders of DeFi. A total of about $690 million is locked in the network, even though it has existed longer than Solana and about the same amount of time as BNB Chain. Once, the project held the largest ICO in history, raising about $4.6 billion in Ether. But the huge fundraising did not lead to noticeable results; now EOS has about 2,800 active users per day.

In practice, the token was more often used for speculation. There are few applications on the network, and real use cases are also lacking. EOS is still traded on Binance, where most of its liquidity is concentrated.
