Mexican Navy Ship Collides with Brooklyn Bridge.
A tragic incident occurred in New York when the Mexican Navy’s training ship Cuauhtémoc collided with the Brooklyn Bridge. The accident took place after a machinery failure caused the vessel to go out of control, and its tall masts struck the bridge.
There were 277 people on board. As a result of the collision, two individuals lost their lives, while 19 others were injured—two of them critically. Rescue teams acted promptly and evacuated all crew members to safety.
The vessel, built in 1982, was on an international training mission that had departed from Acapulco in April. After the collision, the ship was towed to a safe location.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that the bridge sustained no major damage and was reopened after inspection.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed deep sorrow over the incident and offered condolences to the families of the deceased personnel.
