Türkiye Unveils Massive $30 Billion Natural Gas Discovery in Black Sea.
In a landmark announcement, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan revealed the discovery of a 75 billion cubic meter (bcm) natural gas reserve in the Black Sea, a find valued at $30 billion.
Located at the Goktepe-3 well, the discovery follows 49 days of deep-sea drilling at a depth of 3,500 meters using Türkiye’s state-of-the-art Abdulhamid Han drilling vessel.
This newly uncovered reserve has the potential to meet Türkiye’s entire residential natural gas demand for 3.5 years, marking a significant stride toward national energy independence.
This breakthrough adds to Türkiye’s growing energy capabilities, with the Sakarya Gas Field already supplying gas to over 4 million homes.
The government aims to double production by 2026 and quadruple it by 2028, drastically reducing energy imports which currently make up more than 90% of the country’s consumption.
