Speaking at a business forum in Saudi Arabia, Mr. Trump announced that the U.S. will implement a new tax rate within 'the next two to three weeks', while asserting that 'it is not possible to meet each country among the 150 nations that want to reach a trade agreement with us'.
Previously, on April 2 – which Mr. Trump called 'Liberation Day' – the White House imposed a basic 10% tariff on all imported goods, along with higher surcharges on some trade partners such as China, Mexico, and Canada, citing trade imbalances.
Initially, the Trump administration declared it would negotiate bilaterally with each country to adjust tariffs. However, he now asserts that the U.S. will unilaterally decide trade conditions and inform the relevant countries in writing.
